a dance of opening and closing
Good morning! Today our focus is going to be on sensing the opening and closing of our joints! A dance of opening and closing is what keeps our muscles strong, balanced in strength and flexibility, and able to open and close the joints through full ranges of motion!
Opening is about reaching out… pushing out away from you… and expanding out away from a center.
Sense it! Give yourself a giant yawn, stretching your hands as far as they will comfortably go! Sense the opening of your chest, shoulders, elbows, and wrists! Now, sense opening in your legs… Let one foot reach out for a giant leap-like stretch and sense the opening of the knee joint! Next, reach as high as you can, like you are changing a light bulb. You may even go up on the tips of your toes. Sense the opening of your ankle joint, the front of your hip joint, along the spine, the side of your ribcage, your shoulder & armpit, and perhaps even your neck! Openings can be sensed in any joint of the body… Big joints like your knee (opening your knee to kick outward)… small joints like your knuckles (spreading your fingers wide to show “5″)… Sense. Reach. Yawn. Stretch. Expand. Yearn. Open…
